Portland Beer Week

What an amazing time of year: awesome weather is here, the river suddenly seems more appealing, and it’s the time of year where every beer fest comes out to play.

To start the adventures off, I went over to the Lucky Labrador Brewing Company for the kick off of PDX Beer Week. If the rest of the events are anything like this one, you wont be disappointed with what’s around the corner.

It's exactly what it looks like. Blue raspberry nose, lightly tart taste, smooth lager finish. I recommend at least trying it.

Dave Buehler from Elysian Brewing treated us to some great guitar sounds (what can’t this guy do) while we tasted one of the 21 beers that were on tap. I gave Lucky Lab’s Blue Raspberry Lager a shot (only get a taster if you get this one, if only for the color) and a couple of hop-filled concoctions. The best of the night was, of course, the official beer of PDX Beer Week: A collaboration between Breakside and Gigantic brewing (awesome combo) to make a dry-hopped India Amber Ale. It was hoppy and smooth and delicious. Get your hands on this one.

Stay tuned to the calendar. There are tons of events coming up this week. I’ll be looking forward to the Hopworks Pinball Tournament (Tonight 6-9 at Ground Kontrol), Bike Bar’s Second Anniversary (Tomorrow all day…$2 pints!), “Off-Flavors” with Jamie Floyd from Ninkasi (secretly my idol…5:30-7:30 at Saraveza), Beer and Sandwich Fest (who doesn’t love this combo? Breakside from 12:00-7:00 on Saturday), and the Portland Beer and Cheese Fest (another great combo at an equally great place: Sunday at the Commons from 1-5).

Oh, and make sure to tell the wife that you’ll be late to dinner.
