Oregon Legislation Hearts Beer

For those of you who don’t know, Oregon Legislation passed a bond that would give 1.2 MILLION dollars to the Oregon State University fermentation sciences program.

Let’s not pretend like this is not a big deal. Pretty much, this is saying that the State of Oregon believes that brewing/distilling/whatever winemakers do is so important to the state’s infrastructure, that they are going to help and fund it.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a test.

This isn’t a sporadic event. On July 12, Pelican Brewery received a gift from the state in the form of a $150,000 forgivable loan, not to mention the City of Tillamook’s $200,000 (half that amount is forgivable), to build a $1.4 million brewery expansion.

According to the Oregonian’s fine reporting, 18 other breweries around the state have received similar help for expansion, including personal favorites Ninkasi and Oakshire Brewing.

If I had the chance to go into brewing full time, I would. This industry is booming and is not showing signs of stopping.

It’s amazing.
